As a manufacturer of outdoor products, we have a great responsibility in environmental issues. Therefore we have developed a holistic approach that affects our entire operations, from production methods, packaging, noise and consumption of materials to the energy consumption, exhaust emissions and finally the recyclability of the products. We always prefer to use environmentally-compatible materials in our production and we are continually replacing old materials with new, even more environmentally compatible alternatives, as these are developed.
Husqvarna is a pioneer when it comes to environmental fuel and lubricant. We market products like alkylate, a fuel free from benzene and ethers. We have developed an optimal chain oil, Vegoil, which has a vegetable oil base. We recommend the use of our own oil for both maximum chain life and to minimise environmental damage.
Our electrically-powered products are another result of our environmental philosophy. Apart from chain saws and conventional lawn mowers, the range includes automatic lawn mowers like the Automower, the Automower finds its way to and connects itself to a charging station when it needs recharging, thanks to built-in computer technology.
The E-TECH engines are one step in our single-minded work to develop a better working environment for the users and to limit the impact on the global environment. E-TECH stands for Husqvarna's ambition to optimise engines for hand-held equipment, in terms of power, environment and use.
Environmental awareness is increasing around the world and many purchasers now demand a declaration of the materials used in a product, of production methods used etc. From January 2000, we issue environmental declarations on several products, making us the first outdoor products manufacturer in the world to do so. The declaration specifies the products' materials, fuel consumption, fuel type, lubricant, emissions, vibrations, packaging, recyclability and noise. Here we also include how well the products meet international standards.
Our environmental philosophy also permeates our product development activities. Therefore, several of our chain saw and brush cutter models have catalytic converters as standard.
